Bars sepcialising in the new season's wines (look for the bundle of twigs outside!)

Our region is famed for its many bars (known locally as Straussen), which open up temporarily just to serve the new season’s wines. They also serve delicious home-made food to go with the young wine, which is likewise often from the bar’s own vineyard.
Straussen bars only open during the season. We will be pleased to give you the latest tips:

STAUFEN IM BREISGAU

Staufen im Breisgau is a historic, medieval small town, whose well preserved buildings give an account of life as it used to be.

In the old town, called ”Staufener Städtle”, many colourful shops invite visitors to make discoveries.
During a leisurely stroll through the Staufener Städtle, you can take a glance at the impressive castle ruin on the castle hill at any time.

A variety of restaurants to suit every palate and bars set up specially to let guests sample the season’s new wines are all within easy walking distance. We will also be pleased to organise wine-tastings for you, including transport in the hotel’s own minibus, and can arrange for bottles of your favourite wine to be sent on to your home address. There are shopping opportunities in the many towns and villages of the area.

Hiking / Nordic Walking

freizeitfreizeit

Explore the beautiful holiday scenery between the Black Forest mountains of southern Black Forest and the soft hills of the Markgräflerland area on foot. You can enjoy the Black Forest countryside in the pure forest and mountain air while walking at times on broad forest promenades, at times on winding, alpine footpaths and special adventure trails.
There are numerous designated hiking and Nordic walking routes of different lengths.

Freiburg / Breisgau

Germany’s southernmost and sunniest city invites you to an unforgettable and eventful stay. The high percentage of international visitors and students lend Freiburg a special multi-cultural aura.

Be enticed by the quite individual charm of the small city and get to know the town of little alleyways and ”Bächle” (artificial water courses typical of Freiburg).

Schauinsland

Many roads lead to Schauinsland (a Black Forest mountain), but none is as beautiful as that through the air!

The Schauinsland cable car, which was built in 1930 and has been re-built several times since then, transports its passengers over more than 720 metres in height to the mountain station at the top of Schauinsland in 20 minutes.
